Hanmaum Youth October Newsletter

 

부모님들께,

우리 딸아이와 거의 두 달을 보낸 후, 저는 여러분 부모님들이 이미 겪어오신 일에 대해 감사하게 되었습니다. 하지만 수면 부족과 희진이의 계속되는 트림과 방귀 냄새 에도 불구하고, 이 모든 일 가운데 하나님께서 선한 손길로 돌보아 주시고 계십니다. 

 

Youth Lock-In

락인은 잘 진행되었습니다. 학생들이 좋아하는 스낵을 준비해주신 유스 PTA에게 많은 감사를 드립니다.  자원 봉사자들도 칭찬해 주고 싶습니다. Meghan Hughes, Gloria Cho, Iris Choi, Emma Choi, Daniel Yoon, Daniel Chang, Cameron Ahn, and Danny Cho 다들 아이들이 안전하고, 또 좋은 시간을 가질 수 있도록 열심히 일했습니다. 저의 계획은 아이들이 Rock Climbing 에 에너지를 다 써서, 밤에는 자게하는 것이었는데, 대부분의 아이들은 밤새 잠을 자지 않았습니다. 저도 아이들과 밤을 세웠는데, 그 날 이후 며칠동안 아팠습니다. 저도 나이가 들어가나 봅니다. 아이들의 에너지를 따라갈 수가 없습니다.

 

락인의 목표중의 하나가 우리 학생들이 믿지 않는 친구들을 초청해서, 그들이 그리스도의 공동체를 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 것이었는데, 몇 학생들이 친구들을 초대해서, 4명의 새로운 친구들이 Rock Climbing에 왔습니다! 다 함께 즐겁게 놀았습니다. 그런데, 4명중 3명은, 락 클라이밍이 끝나고 나서 집에 가서, 교회에 와서 함께 시간을 보내지 못했습니다. 이것은 이해가 되는 일입니다. 2022년에, Lifeway Christian Publishers 라는 기독교 출판사에서 믿지 않는 미국인들의 기독교와 기독교 활동에 대한 시각에 대해서 설문조사를 한 적이 있습니다. 여기에서 발견된 것 중에 하나는 미국인들이 영적인 대화를 할 마음이 있고, 성경공부에도 참여하지만, 교회 건물에 들어오는 것은 꺼려한다는 것입니다. 교회에 대한 주저함은 우리 시대에 종교적인 기관들에 대한 신뢰가 줄어든 것을 반영한다고 볼 수 있습니다.

 

이것이 뜻하는바는, “친구들을 교회로 초대한다”라는 개념은 이제 우리 아이들의 세대에서는 효과적인 전도나 교회 성장의 전략이 아니라는 것입니다. 주님의 증인이 되라는 주님의 명령을 따르기 위해서, 이제 우리 유스그룹이 “교회 밖에서”의 행사와 활동들을 더 많이 하는 것이 요구됩니다. 또한 언제 어디서나 기회가 될 때마다 복음을 전할 수 있도록 우리 학생들을 훈련하여야 할 것입니다. 이러한 일들이 실제로 일어나도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 

 

Yam Jam 고구마 캐기

 

10월 19일 토요일에, 한마음 유스는  Yam Jam에 참여하게 됩니다. 이것은 Society of Saint Andrew가 주관하는 자원 봉사자 활동입니다. 세상에 있는 배고픔을 음식부족 문제를 해결하는 것을 목표로 합니다. NC 에 있는 농부들과 협력하여서, 자원 봉사자들이 그들의 밭에서 고구마를 캐도록 해서, 그 고구마를 가난한 사람들을 위해서  지역의 food banks에 기부합니다. 

작년에, 한마음 유스 그룹에서 3명의 학생들이 참여해서, 비가 조금씩 오긴 했지만, 추수의 기쁨을 경험했습니다. 올해에는, 적어도 10명의 학생들이 참여하여서, 가난하고 배고픈 사람들을 향한 그리스도의 사랑을 전달할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 하나님의 사랑을 세상에 보여주는 기쁨을 가르치는 이 사역을 위해서 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

Thursday, October 3rd  11am - 330pm	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on this date)   학생들이 숙제들을 가지고 와서, 친구들과 함께 공부하며, 생산적인 공부 스케줄에 따라서 공부함으로서, 더 효과적으로 시간을 보낼 수 있게 될 것입니다.

Saturday, October 19th  7:00 am - 2:00 pm	새벽기도회 후에, 학생들이 이지역에 있는 농장에 가서, 고구마를 캐게 됩니다. 이 고구마들은 Raleigh-Durham 지역의 Food banks에 기부하게 됩니다.

Saturday October 26th	한마음 교회 피크닉는 남선교회에서 주최합니다. 유스학생들은 부모님들과 함께 오시면 됩니다.
Mural Completion Deadline 벽화 최종 마감일
Friday, November 1st	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on this date)    벽화를 마무리 하는 날입니다. 이 날, 우리가 그린 벽화 위에 이 프로젝트를 마치는 날을 적은 패를 달게 됩니다.
Beach Day Trip 해변으로 일일 여행
Tuesday, November 5th (6:30am-9:00pm)	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on thise date)  *** 대니 목사님은 이날 행사를 위해서, 하루 휴가받는 것을 확인해야 합니다t ***   Wilmington Beach에 가서 하루를 지냅니다. 아이들은 모래성을 만들기 위해서 삽을 가져와도 좋고, 배구, 등 해변에서 할 수 있는 활동을 할 것입니다. 11월이라서, 물에는 안 들어갑니다.

8:00pm - 9:30pm Friday, September 27th Friday, October 25th	유스 찬양과 기도의 밤은 어른들의 새찬양과 기도의 밤과 동시에 진행됩니다.

• 새로운 선생님들께서 하나님의 일을 잘 감당할 수 있도록 기도해 주세요. 

• 남자 학생들을 더 보내 주시도록 기도해 주세요. 

• 여자 선생님들을 더 보내 주시도록 기도해 주세요.

Hanmaum Youth September Newsletter

 

Dear Parents,

After spending almost two months with our baby girl, I have grown in appreciation for what all you parents have already gone through. But despite the lack of sleep and her constant gas, God has been so good to us through all of it.

 

Youth Lock-In

The Lock-in went great. I want to give a lot of thanks to the PTA for providing snacks which the students loved. The volunteers also deserve a lot of credit: Meghan Hughes, Gloria Cho, Iris Choi, Emma Choi, Daniel Yoon, Daniel Chang, Cameron Ahn, and Danny Cho all worked very hard to make sure the kids were safe and had a good time. My plan was to have them spend all their energy rock climbing and hopefully go to sleep later in the evening, but the majority of the kids stayed awake the entire night. I stayed up with them, but became very sick over the next several days. I am getting old. I can no longer match their energy levels. 

 

One of the goals of our lock-in was to provide our children with an opportunity to invite unbelieving friends to be witnessed to through our Christian community. Several of our youth students took the opportunity to invite their friends, and four new kids came to the rock-climbing with us. We had a great time playing together. However, three of those four were picked up and went home before returning to the church. This makes a lot of sense. In 2022 Lifeway Christian Publishers conducted a survey on unchurched Americans and their perspectives on Christianity and church activities. One of the insights they found was that even if Americans are willing to engage in spiritual conversations and even take part in a Bible study, those same individuals are unwilling to step foot in a church building. The researchers believe that this hesitancy about church is a reflection of decreased trust in religious institutions in our current culture.

 

What this means is that the old idea of ‘inviting a friend to church’ will likely not suffice for our children’s generation as a strategy for effective evangelism or church growth. Following Jesus’ command to be his witnesses to the lost will require our youth group to do more “off campus” events and activities in the future, and training our kids to be ready to share the gospel whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. Please pray for the youth group as we aim to make this a reality.

 

Yam Jam

 

On Saturday October 19th, Hanmaum Youth Group will be participating in Yam Jam. This is a volunteer activity organized by the Society of Saint Andrew, whose goal it is to eliminate hunger and food insecurity in the world. They partner with NC farmers who allow volunteers to come glean sweet potatoes from their harvests to be donated to local food banks for those who are less fortunate. 

 

Last year, the Hanmaum Youth Group sent three students who had a great time harvesting despite the intermittent rain. This year, I would like for us to be able to send at least ten volunteers to represent our church’s love for the poor and hungry in our community. Please pray for this ministry to teach our students the joy of representing God’s love to the world!

Thursday, October 3rd  11am - 330pm	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on this date)   Students are invited to bring their school work and enjoy each other’s company as they are a productive work schedule is facilitated for their benefit.
Yam Jam
Saturday, October 19th  7:00 am - 2:00 pm	After dawn service, we will take the kids to a local farm to glean sweet potatoes for donation to food banks in the Raleigh-Durham area.
Hanmaum Church Picnic
Saturday October 26th	Hanmaum church fellowship picnic organized by the Men’s Ministry. Youth are invited to attend with their parents.
Mural Completion Deadline
Friday, November 1st	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on this date)    This is the final day to work on the mural. We will plan to apply fixative over top of the paint on this date to mark the completion of the project.
Beach Day Trip
Tuesday, November 5th (6:30am-9:00pm)	(WCPSS and CHCCS have Teacher workdays on thise date)  *** Pastor Danny must secure time off work to confirm this event ***   Driving down to Wilmington Beach and spending the day there. Kids can bring shovels for making sandcastles, volleyball, etc. (Not in the water. It’s too cold in November.)

Praise and Prayer Night
8:00pm - 9:30pm Friday, September 27th Friday, October 25th	Youth praise and prayer service conducted during Adult’s New Praise and Prayer Night.

 

Prayer Requests

• Pray for the new teachers to be equipped by God to do the work he has called them to

• Ask God to send our youth group more boy students.

• Ask God to send our youth group more female teachers.

• Please pray for our baby to sleep and grow well.
