Hanmaum Youth May Parent Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Spring time at Hanmaum has been a whirlwind of events. Since our last monthly newsletter, the SALT team took a trip to Northern VA/DC, the youth kids attended an inter-Baptist praise night hosted by First Korean Baptist Church in Raleigh, the 10th-11th grade high school girls had a get together at my house, and we had our Spring lock in, not to mention the special dawn services and other preparations for Easter Sunday. Some pictures of these events are included below:
Curriculum Update
We will be starting a new series this coming week in 1 Peter. This book speaks a lot about the victory we have in our identity in Christ, even as we face suffering and persecution. While the book was originally written to Gentile believers scattered around Asia Minor, I believe that many of the principles and promises it teaches are extremely important for our children today. As we spend each week in this epistle, I will be challenging the students to examine their walk with Christ and consider if they are living in the victory he has promised, despite challenges, stresses, and even opposition they might face in the world. Please join me in reminding the students of their identity in Christ by asking them about the Sunday sermon and Bible study lessons as they go through the week.
Summer Events
There are a lot of things happening over the Summer so I have attached a separate calendar document detailing all the events planned for the youth group from June through August. Some important dates to make note of: July 11th-12th we are holding a mini-retreat for 6-9th grade, and on the following week, 10th-12th grade will have theirs July 18th-19th.
Another exciting change is that we will be experimenting with new classes of mixed age and gender from Promotion Sunday until school begins. This change comes at the suggestion of the SALT team, who are looking for ideas which might help promote unity across the youth group. The youth teachers and I will be randomly assigning new classes and announcing them by the end of May. One exemption from this mix-up may be the incoming 6th graders who may be overwhelmed by all the changes. This will also need to be discussed with the teachers. After the summer ends, we will return to our divisions by grade with some new teachers.

Conversational Evangelism Seminar |

EM is hosting this event. Author and speaker David Geisler is coming to give a talk about Conversational Evangelism, which he co authored a book about alongside the late Dr. Norman Geisler. This is a fantastic opportunity for the youth students to put together a game plan of how to reach their lost friends, neighbors, and classmates with the gospel. Dinner is provided. |

PTA Meeting |

During this meeting the PTA will meet to vote in a new PTA president and Vice president as well as decide on budget issues and goals for next year. Please make time to attend this meeting! |

Come celebrate our graduating seniors and their families as a youth group. Some of them have made great contributions to our fellowship. Let us honor God for what he has done in and through them. |

Promotion Sunday |

Sunday, June 8th. |
This will be the first Sunday in which the kids will be considered members of their next school grade. This will mean the rising 6th graders will leave behind elementary and join youth group, and the current 12th grade class will be considered college students worshiping with either EM or KM. |

Cook-out and Prayer Meeting |

We will have a BBQ dinner and kick off our summer prayer meetings on this date. Subsequently, we will have a prayer meeting on every other Wednesday from 6:30-8:00pm: July 2nd, 16th, 30th; August 13th. |

Prayer Requests

Pray for the youth students to be bold and brave in their faith as we study how it is applied in the book of 1 Peter.

I will be going to Korea this coming May for the first time in my life! I’m very excited, but I would also like your prayers for the youth group while I am gone. Shane Hughes, Chris Lee, and Pastor Na will be preaching on the weeks that I am gone.

Please pray for the busy youth summer schedule to go well, especially the youth retreats. The mini retreats are a new format that we are trialing in response to increasing difficulty to align everyone’s schedules. Although the time spent together is shorter, I hope the separation of the older and younger grades will give us the opportunity to give special focus and application for each group.

부모님들께께,
한마음 교회의 봄에는 많은 이벤트 들이 있었습니다. 지난번 뉴스 레터 이후에, 유스 리더십 팀 the SALT 팀은 Northern VA/DC로 여행을 다녀 왔습니다. 유스 학생들은 랄리제일침례교회에서 주관한 , the youth 침례교회 유스들의 연합 찬양집회를 참석했고고, the 10th-11th grade 고등학교 여학생들은 저희 집에서 모임을 가졌고, 봄 락인을 했을 뿐 아니라, 특별새벽기도회 와 그 외의 부활절 준비를 했습니다. 밑에는 이런 행사들의 사진입니다.
커리큘럼 업데이트
이번주에 베드로전서를 시작합니다. 이 책은 고난과 박해 속에서도 그리스도 안에서 우리의 정체성을 굳건히 지키며 승리하는 것에 대해 많이 이야기합니다. 이 책은 원래 소아시아 곳곳에 흩어져 있던 이방인 신자들을 위해 쓰였지만, 저는 이 책이 가르치는 많은 원리와 약속들이 오늘날 우리 자녀들에게 매우 중요하다고 믿습니다. 이 서신을 매주 읽으면서, 저는 학생들에게 그들의 신앙생활을 되돌아보고, 세상에서 직면할 수 있는 어려움과 스트레스, 심지어 반대에도 불구하고 예수님께서 약속하신 승리 안에서 살고 있는지 생각해 보도록 권면할 것입니다. 주일 설교와 성경 공부 시간에 학생들에게 그리스도 안에서의 정체성을 일깨워 주시기를 간곡히 부탁드립니다.
여름 이벤트
여름 동안 많은 행사가 예정되어 있어 6월부터 8월까지 유스를 위해 계획된 모든 행사를 자세히 설명하는 별도의 일정표를 첨부했습니다. 몇 가지 중요한 날짜를 알려드리겠습니다. 7월 11일부터 12일까지 6~9학년을 위한 미니 수양회가 있고, 그 다음 주인 7월 18일부터 19일까지 10~12학년을 위한 수양회가 있습니다.
또 다른 흥미로운 변화는 진급 주일(Promotion Sunday)부터 개학 전까지 연령과 성별이 다 섞인인 새로운 학급을 운영한다는 것입니다. 이 변화는 유스 전체의 연합을 증진하는 데 도움이 될 만한 아이디어를 찾고 있는 SALT 팀의 제안에 따른 것입니다. 저와 유스교사들은 무작위로 새로운 학급을 배정하여 5월 말까지 발표할 예정입니다. 6학년 신입생들이 이렇게 큰 변화를 어려워할 수 있어서, 따로 반을 할 예정입니다. 이 부분 역시 교사들과 논의가 필요할 것입니다. 여름 방학이 끝나면 새로운 교사들과 함께 학년별로 다시 모일 예정입니다.

대화식 전도 세미나 |

EM이 주관하는 행사입니다. 강사 David Geisler 가 대화식 전도방법에 대해서 훈련을 해 주실 것입니다. 이 책은 그가 그의 아버지인 고 Dr. Norman Geisler 와 공동저작한 책입니다. 이 행사는 유스들이 안믿는 친구, 이웃, 그리고 반 친구들에게 복음을 전할 방법을 계획하고 실천할 수 있는 좋은 기회입니다. 저녁 식사도 제공됩니다. |
