Dear Parents,

 

Hiking Trip Pictures

Our fellowship activity of March was a hiking trip to Hanging Rock State Park. The students said they wanted to see waterfalls, so we went and tried out two trails that I had never visited before, and they were beautiful. We climbed rocks, ate snacks, made ramen, and enjoyed music together. Special thanks to Evangelist Hannah Kim and for member Jong-Hoon Lee for chaperoning the event. 

 

 

Although it might just look like a silly time to have fun, these fellowship events are actually an important part of the youth group experience. Not only does it give kids a chance to spend time with people they might not usually hang out with and develop their social skills, it also allows our youth group to be the community of Christ towards one another. Please encourage your kids to be a part of things like this!

 

Praise and Prayer Night hosted by First Korean Baptist Church of Raleigh

In the spirit of Easter and with the aim of improving our interchurch collaboration, the youth groups of several local Korean Baptist churches will be participating together in a praise and prayer night hosted by FKBC Raleigh on April 4th from 6pm to 10pm. If you are interested in carpooling from Hanmaum, please have your child show up at church by 5:15pm. 

 

Upcoming Baptisms

Several youth students have informed me that they are looking into getting baptized this Easter. Baptism is a practice commanded by Jesus that marks the believer's membership into the body of Christ. It is a physical symbol intended to reflect a spiritual reality that the believer's life of sin is nailed with Jesus on the cross, and the believer is united with Him in his resurrection from the grave. We are baptized with water to tell the world that we have also been baptized in the Holy Spirit. For Baptists, this is a big deal, as we believe that the decision to get baptized can only truly be made by individuals who freely confess and believe in the name of Jesus. For this reason, while I want to encourage the parents to ask their children if they are ready to be baptized, I would ask that nobody coerce their children to do so. 

Anyone interested in getting baptized this Easter is required to attend a Baptism training on April 13th at 2pm after youth Bible study.   

Easter at Hanmaum

While the rest of the church has a joint service for the celebration of Easter Sunday, youth will have our own separate Sunday service in the Main Sanctuary which will begin after the Baptism celebration with the adults. On Easter Sunday there will be no lunch served nor Sunday school classes. Just bring your kids to the Fellowship Hall and the Pastors will tell the kids when it is time for them to leave.

Dawn Service
MF April 14-18th, (6-7a)		Early morning prayer for youth students. This will feature a short message followed by a guided prayer time.
Good Friday Service
Friday, April 18th, (730-9p)		Youth and EM will have a special joint Good Friday Service.
Youth Lock In
Friday-Saturday, April 18-19th, (pick up at 10am)		*WCPSS and CHCCS Teacher Workday* During Good Friday weekend the youth will have a lock-in at church starting from 10am until 10am the next morning. We will enforce quiet hours starting at 2am.
Evangelism Seminar
Friday, April 2nd 6:50-9pm		EM is hosting a special guest speaker, Norman Geisler, who will be sharing a seminar on conversational evangelism. It is rare that our church has a guest speaker of such influence and I want to strongly encourage all of our youth students to take full advantage of it.

 

Prayer Requests

• I am considering whether Hanmaum youth group needs to do a midweek program like the other youth groups in our area. I will be conducting some research over the next month into this idea. Please pray that God would give guidance and direction on whether this is something he wants for us or not. 

• We have several new faces around the youth group. Semi Choi a UNC freshman serving as a teacher for the 9th grade class. Jaewon Jun is also a UNC freshman serving as an assistant teacher for the 10th-11th grade girls. Please pray for them to be blessed by their service and to be faithful and effective disciples for the children. 

• I will be going on an extended trip to Korea this coming May. This is the first time I am going to Korea in my whole life! I'm very excited, but I would also like your prayers for the youth group while I am gone.

하이킹 사진들

3월 교제 활동은 Hanging rock State Park으로 하이킹을 가는 것이었습니다. 학생들이 폭포를 보고 싶다고 해서, 제가 한 번도 가보지 않은 두 개의 트레일을 따라갔는데 정말 아름다웠습니다. 바위에 등산하고, 간식을 먹고, 라면을 끓이고, 함께 음악을 즐겼습니다. 행사를 인도해 주신 김 한나 전도사님과 이종훈 성도님께 특별히 감사드립니다.. 

 

 

그냥 재미있는 것만 하는 별 의미없는 시간처럼 보일지 모르지만, 이러한 친교 활동은 사실 청소년 모임에서 중요한 부분입니다. 아이들이 평소 만나기 힘든 사람들과 시간을 보내고 사회성을 키울 수 있는 기회를 제공할 뿐만 아니라, 우리 유스모임이 서로를 향한 그리스도의 공동체가 되도록 도와줍니다. 자녀들이 이런 활동에 참여하도록 격려해 주세요!

 

First Korean Baptist Church of Raleigh 에서 찬양과 기도의 밤

부활절을 맞아, 그리고 교회 간 연합을 강화하고자 여러 지역 한인 침례교회 유스그룹들이 4월 4일 저녁 6시부터 10시까지 FKBC 랄리 에서 주최하는 찬양과 기도의 밤에 함께 참여합니다. 한마음에서 카풀을 원하시는 분들은 자녀를 오후 5시 15분까지 교회에 오시기 바랍니다.

 

다가오는 침례식

여러 청소년 학생들이 이번 부활절에 세례를 받고 싶다고 제게 알려왔습니다. 세례는 예수님께서 명하신 의식으로, 믿는 자가 그리스도의 몸에 속함을 나타내는 것입니다. 이는 믿는 자의 죄악된 삶이 예수님과 함께 십자가에 못 박히고, 무덤에서 부활하심으로 그분과 연합된다는 영적인 실체를 반영하는 물리적인 상징입니다. 우리가 물로 세례를 받는 것은 우리가 또한 성령으로 세례를 받았음을 세상에 알리기 위함입니다. 침례교인들에게 이는 매우 중요한 의미를 지닙니다. 우리는 예수님의 이름을 기꺼이 고백하고 믿는 사람만이 세례를 받을 결정을 내릴 수 있다고 믿기 때문입니다. 이러한 이유로 저는 부모님께 자녀에게 세례 받을 준비가 되었는지 물어보라고 권하고 싶지만, 자녀에게 세례를 받도록 강요해서는 안 된다고 당부하고 싶습니다.

이번 부활절에 세례를 받고자 하는 사람은 4월 13일 오후 2시에 청소년 성경공부 후 세례 교육에 참석해야 합니다.

Hanmaum 부활절

부활절 주일에는 교회 전체가 연합 예배를 드리는 반면, 유스그룹은 성인 세례식 후 본당에서 따로 주일 예배를 드립니다. 부활절 주일에는 점심 식사나 주일학교 수업이 없습니다. 아침에 아이들을 데리고 친교실로 오시면 교역자들이 언제 이동하는지 알려드릴 것입니다.

성금요일 예배
Friday, April 18th, (730-9p)		유스와 EM이 함께 연합으로 드립니다.
Youth Lock In
Friday-Saturday, April 18-19th, (pick up at 10am)		*WCPSS and CHCCS Teacher Workday* 성금요일 주말에, 교회에서 금요일 오전 10시부터 토요일 10시까지 락인을 하게 됩니다. 2am이후에는 조용하게 하는 시간으로 지킬 것입니다.
전도 세미나
Friday, May 2nd 6:50-9pm		EM이 David Geisler를 초청하여 대화식 전도에 대해서 세미나를 열게 됩니다. 이분은 Norman Geisler라는 훌륭한 변증학자의 아들로서, 그 사역을 이어가고 있는데, 이런 영향력 있는 강사가 오는 것은 흔치 않은 기회입니다. 그래서, 유스 학생들이 이 기회를 놓치지 말고, 모두 참석할 수 있도록 격려하길 원합니다.

 

기도 제목

• 한마음 유스그룹이 우리 지역 다른 청년부처럼 주중 프로그램을 운영해야 할지 고민 중입니다. 다음 달에 이 아이디어에 대해 조사해 볼 예정입니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 이 프로그램을 원하시는지 아닌지 인도하시고 방향을 제시해 주시기를 기도해 주세요.

• 유스 그룹에 새로운 얼굴들이 몇 있습니다. Semi Choi 는 UNC 1학년인데, 9th grade class 를 가르칩니다. Jaewon Jun 도 UNC 1학년인데, 10th-11th grade 여자반에 보조 교사로 섬깁니다. 이들이 봉사하면서, 은혜를 받을 수 있도록 기도해 주시고, 아이들을 위한 신실하고 효과적인 양육자가 되도록 기도해 주세요. 

• 제가 5월에 장기간 (3주간) 한국 여행을 가게 됩니다. 이번에 저는 처음으로 한국에 가보게 됩니다. 아주 기대가 되는데, 제가 없는 사이에 유스 그룹이 잘 운영될 수 있도록 기도 부탁드립니다.
